How It All Started
Although I’ve been working as a full time photographer since 2012, it all started way back in 1999. This was the year that I started college, and it was actually an open day that inspired me. I saw some fantastic images put on display by some of the photography students, after which I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a new camera and dive into the world of photography. Sadly, it didn’t take long for me to realise that I needed some kind of tuition to become a skilled photographer. There’s so much involved when it comes to taking great photos, and I was really keen to learn. Gripped by my newfound interest, I decided to enrol at the college for a diploma in photography, and I started gaining experience by working with a handful of professional photographers on the side. I was immediately drawn to the intricate world of wedding photography. Luckily, I had a family friend who was a professional wedding photographer, happy to hire me as a second shooter in order to practise. Over the years I shot more and more weddings which really helped to increase my confidence. Now it all just comes naturally, making camera adjustments and taking amazing photos without even having to think about it.
Flash forward to 2012, James Malkin Photography was established, and I have since undertaken all kinds of photography work, including: studio portraiture, outdoor family lifestyle, commercial, weddings and events.
